Many of us have heard the age-old quote about success beginning on the first step outside your comfort zone. While this quote is used quite a bit, it does have a great deal of truth to it. If you really want to find the long-term, sustainable success you have always wanted, you need to be willing to step outside your comfort zone and do things that may seem foreign and uncomfortable to you. The good news is, there are ways that you can slowly start stepping outside your comfort zone so that you can find more success and accomplish more in both your personal and professional endeavors. Keep these tips in mind as you attempt to step outside your comfort zone, they can be your key to not only pushing yourself outside your comfort zone, but in finding the type of success that often comes with this type of risk.

Do It Often.

The first step in learning how to get out of your comfort zone is being willing to do it on a regular basis. You can’t just expect that stepping out of your comfort zone once will be enough to make an impact. You need to step out of your comfort zone, take on the challenges it presents, overcome those challenges and then repeat the process, over and over again. The more comfortable you become with pushing yourself in this way and with trying new things the easier it becomes to say ‘yes’ to new challenges and to new opportunities.

Don’t Overwhelm Yourself; Start Small.

When it comes to stepping outside of your comfort zone, it is important that you step small. Remember, the goal is to step outside your comfort zone, not to dive off the deep end head first. Start small, don’t overwhelm yourself too much. Begin with making small changes to your everyday routine so you start to get used to stepping outside your comfort zone. Maybe you rearrange your office or try a new routine that includes working out in the morning, and then begin making changes from there. If you do too much, too fast, too soon you are only setting yourself up for failure.

Focus on the Challenge, Not the Fear.

It can be easy to be afraid by the prospect of stepping outside your comfort zone. However, the key is to not focus on the fear and to instead focus on the fact that you have a challenge in front of you. Rebranding the uncertainty you feel as a challenge instead of fear is the best way to overcome this fear during your attempts to step outside your comfort zone. You may feel some butterflies at first, but over time those butterflies will become more of an adrenaline rush to power you forward instead of an insecurity that is holding you back.

Keep these things in mind as you challenge yourself to step outside of your comfort zone. If you start small, take things slow and let go of your fear, you can start finding the success that you have always wanted.
