Technology. It has become such a changing force in our world today, that it seems almost impossible to remember what life was like before we were so dependent on technology. Think about your day. Think about what you spend your work time and free time doing. Does it involve some type of technology? Most people would say ‘yes.’ And there is nothing wrong with using technology all the time. In fact, technology can, obviously, go a long way in helping many people reach out to others, find success, managing their business and grow both personally and professionally.
Unfortunately, there are many individuals who spend too much time with technology only to find that it has started to pull them away from their normal, everyday lives. While technology can be great, if you are too dependent on it, it can also have some setbacks. Here are three of the most important reasons why those who are too dependent on technology should start to separate themselves from their gadgets, just a little, so they can start living a better life.
You’ll Practice Social Skills That Don’t Involve Liking/Sharing/Retweeting
There are so many people today who grew up with technology, who unfortunately have forgotten some of their most basic social skills. You may not realize it, but many people become so dependent on liking, sharing and tweeting that they forget what normal human interactions are like when they are face-to-face. If you take a break from your laptop, tablet and cell-phone and stop spending all of your time only interacting with people over social media, you can start to really connect with individuals again. Go ahead and sharpen your social skills and stop relying so much on social media, it will help you feel more connected to those around you and help you actually have social interactions with people in person, instead of over the internet.
Your Sleep Patterns Will Improve
There have been numerous studies that have linked excessive technology use to sleeping. If you are one of those individuals who answers emails in bed until the moment they fall asleep, checks their phones right before bed or watches television until they drift off, it may actually be impacting your ability to sleep. Turn off the technology before you head to bed, it will help you fall asleep faster and help you get better sleep as well.
You Can Relax and Live in the Moment!
If you spend all of your time hunched over a cell phone or tablet, chances are you will start to feel more tensed up all the time. Sitting in that hunched over position for hours at a time will only make you feel more tense. If you lay off the technology, you can finally relax. If your neck, shoulders and back relax, your entire body will relax as well. Plus, if you lift your head up and look at the world around you, you can actually live in the moment. You may be surprised by all that is going on in the world around you while you spend all of you time staring at your phone.
