When it comes to finding both the personal and professional success you seek in your life, one of the most important things you can do is to surround yourself with the right people. Having the right people around you can motivate you, inspire you and keep you accountable for your actions. Ideally, you want to surround yourself with individuals who have similar goals to you and those who inspire you to be better. Ultimately, surrounding yourself with role models is the best way to position yourself for the success you desire.
However, there are also individuals that you need to make sure that you avoid. If you have these types of individuals in your core inner circle, then they may actually be holding you back. If you have people like this close to you, you may want to reconsider your relationship or talk to them about their impact on your professional endeavors.
Those Who Constantly Doubt
There are certain people who seem to be always doubting those around them. Whether they are doubting your ability to achieve your goals or your ability to get a job or your ability to make a certain amount of money, these people should be avoided at all costs. Many times they claim they are just exercising “tough love” or that they are “trying to help.” However, in reality if these people are doubting what you do or what you say you are going to do, they are hurting you not helping.
Those Who Only See Failure
There are so many people who only see failure. If you do not 100% succeed at a goal, they don’t refer to it as a learning experience or as something you can conquer next time they see it only as a failure. Whether they have this negative attitude towards you or towards themselves, these are not positive people to be around. Constantly hearing the word failure can only start to bring you down.
If you have that pessimistic friend who constantly speaks of failures, then you need to try to distance yourself from this type of attitude.
Those Who Aren’t Serious When They Need to Be
There are some individuals who simply aren’t serious people. These individuals are absolutely great to be around, especially if you need a little silliness in your life. However, there are other individuals who are never serious, even when they need to be. People who are not serious about their job or who don’t take their obligations or their work seriously are not good individuals to be around. If you have that type of person around you, it can start to rub off on you. It is fine to have less-than-serious friends, but if they never know when to switch gears, they may be impacting your own ability to be successful.
Having the right people, and the right positive energy around you is an important part of finding success in any market. Take a close look at the people closest to you and make certain you aren’t surrounding yourself with negative individuals that may be holding you back.
